Lions Club Honors Mason StudentsThe Mason Lions Club recognized three Mason City Schools students and a St. Susanna student at its annual Citizenship Awards Night on April 17.  Following a dinner in the students' honor, each child received a plaque and $50.

This year's recipients included Mason High School's Emily Wang, Mason Middle School's Meghan Hartley, Mason Intermediate's Olivia McCann, and St. Susanna's Alex Van Pee.  The Lions Club worked with school counselors throughout the selection process, and the honored students each selected a teacher to introduce them and share why they were chosen to receive the award. Dee Dee Messer presented Wang with her award, Hayley Kennedy presented Hartley with her award, Trish Devore presented McCann with her award, and Thomas Parker presented Van Pee with his award.

According to Mason Lions Club President Ed Strosnider, the Citizenship Awards have been a tradition since 1978. "We are always impressed by the quality of the selections and the effort and presentation each teacher provides for the students," shared Strosnider.  "As usual, each presentation was fantastic.  You could tell there was time and effort put into each introduction.  I know the parents as well as the students appreciate the roll they [the teachers] played in the event."
