WR Second Grader Places 3rd in State "Imagine Engineering" Contest

Western Row second grader Maya Ahlers placed third in the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) Imagine Engineering Program. Ahlers is a student in Kim Peters second grade STEM lab.

This is the eighteenth year that OSPE has been conducting the program, and this year more than 85 Ohio elementary schools and over 8,000 second graders participated. Presentations on engineering are given to classrooms using guidebooks while encouraging student engaged discussions. After the presentation, students are given the opportunity to participate in a coloring contest to describe in their own interpretation what an engineer does.

Richard Miller presented the award to Maya for her coloring on behalf of OSPE. This was Miller’s fifth year as a part of the Imagine Engineering Program and he has found “each and every participating student to be both intelligent and engaging”.

Ahlers received a Math Shark game and calculator, and a $20 gift card for finishing in the top five. Mason Early Childhood Center STEM Lab second graders Steven Steel and Vivian Tang each received $20 gift cards for finishing in the top five of the local chapter.
