The City of Mason proclaimed June 13 as “Comet Cure Cancer Day” in honor of Mason City Schools, staff and families raising more than $85,000 this year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Tri-State Chapter!
"On this day the City of Mason recognizes and thanks Mason City School staff and students for inspiring their peers, community and schools across the country to dream big, be brave, and never give up until the words are published: Cancer Cured, Someday is Today!" stated the resolution that was approved by Mason City Council in front of staff and student representatives from Mason Intermediate School, Mason Middle School and Mason High School.
In 2016, Mason High School was recognized as the Top LLS Student Series School in the nation,  the Overall Top Student Series School in Ohio, and #1 Student Series High School in the Tristate. The National Honor Society’s Pasta for Pennies campaign inspired the entire MHS student body to participate in organized activities, races, and a very popular and effective  LipDub viral video that had over 178,000 views on YouTube.
Mason Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society’s Pasta for Pennies Campaign  raised more than $22,000 and was recognized as the #2 Overall Top Student Series School and #1 Middle School in the Tristate Chapter.
Mason Intermediate School  raised more than $7,000 - including raising more than $2,000 in 60 minutes with the Kona Ice Fundraising tool. MI was recognized as the LLS Student Series #3 Overall Top School in the Tristate and #1 Intermediate/Middle School in the Tristate Chapter.
Mason City Schools strives to empower its students and foster individual excellence by creating a learning culture that inspires innovation, leadership, and global understanding that is evident through teamwork, collaboration, and dedication to building a world without blood cancer.
Since 2003, Mason City Schools Pennies for Pasta campaigns have donated more than half a million dollars, while the District’s Student Series program has offered service learning, character education, and philanthropic activity to help thousands of children and adults in their fight against blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma.
