Mason Intermediate's top sixth grade math students competed in the school's annual Math Contest on February 23. Congratulations to Jeet Shah, the third place finisher; Clayton Bryant and Matthew Clayton, who tied for second place; and Alvin Zhang and James Zhu, who tied for first place. According to sixth grade math teacher Kristyn Russell, MI has earned first place in the region for the past four years. "We're hoping to take home the title again this year!"

Each sixth grade team sent their top scorers based on a preliminary contest to the final competition. Students were given 30 minutes to answer 40 questions covering a range of mathematical knowledge. All questions were provided by the Math League, an organization dedicated to bringing challenging mathematics materials to students. Over one million students in fourth grade through high school participate in Math League contests each year.

"The Math Contest is a wonderful opportunity that allows our students to engage in healthy competition while experiencing the joys of academic success," shared Russell. "It's a pleasure to see the enthusiasm the students possess for this event!"
