Mason Intermediate sixth grader Jake Belcastro knows geography! On Friday, January 15, Belcastro of Team Quest won the school's annual National Georgraphic Geography Bee, with classmate Conner Wright earning the runner-up spot. According to Elementary Social Studies Curriculum Leader Chris Lucas, an unprecedented 27 students correctly answered all seven questions in their classroom bees to qualify for the school competition.

Belcastro was named the winner after over an hour of competition and a tiebreaker round involving the final ten contestants. "The competition each year is stronger than the year before!" said Lucas.

As the school's winner, Belcastro completed a written test of 70 multiple choice questions, and those results will determine if he advances to the state competition in April.
