Journalism/Communications Scholarship Applications Available
Applications for the annual $500 David Lyon Memorial Scholarship are now available to local students.
The David Lyon Memorial Scholarship is an annual award. One $500 non-renewable merit-based scholarship for full-time first-time college students will be granted in May. Application deadline is April 1, 2010. Applications are now are available in the guidance offices of all local high schools (public, private and parochial) enrolling students residing within the Kings and Mason school districts.
This scholarship is coordinated by the trustees of the David Lyon Memorial Scholarship Inc. and is made possible through hundreds of donations from his friends throughout the community he served. David Lyon was a familiar and respected journalist in Mason and Deerfield Township from the mid-1970s to 1995.
The selection standards for this prestigious award are:
• Showing a sound interest and positive desire toward pursuing a college degree in print or broadcast journalism or communication arts,
• Ranking in the upper one-fourth of the high school graduating class,
• Demonstrating a record of performance in activities both in school and in the community.
The scholarship award is based on academic recognition and the potential for future achievement in the area of journalism or communications. The scholarship committee reviews all applications, and at its sole discretion selects a number of candidates for personal interviews. The interview must be completed for award consideration.
Those students eligible for the scholarship and attending private schools within the Mason and Kings School districts may pick up applications in school offices or at 211 N. East St., Mason. For information, call 398-0474 ext. 20118.
