Friday night’s football game between Mason High School and Moeller High School at Dwire Field at Atrium Stadium was cancelled after a detailed threat (including a bomb threat) was called into the Mason Police Department. The September 9 game was a particularly high attendance game since it also featured the community Tailgate.
The stadium and Arena parking lot (the site of Tailgate) were cleared after the threat was called in, and everyone was evacuated while the police worked to sweep the area for possible explosives.
“We take every threat extremely seriously, and greatly appreciate the quick actions of our families, coaches, students and spectators who responded very well in a difficult situation. We also appreciate our law enforcement partners diligence,” said Dr. Gail Kist-Kline, Mason City Schools Superintendent.
The game was rescheduled for Sunday at 2:30pm.
