Mason Intermediate sixth graders on Team
Patriots teamed up with Team Success and Team
Endeavor for the fifth annual Penny War to raise money
for Crohn’s Research at Children’s Hospital. The 'War' ran February 5-9.
Crohn’s disease is a chronic illness that affects the
digestive tract and is becoming more common. It is usually diagnosed between
the ages of 15 and 35, and currently it has no cure.
"It is a disease that definitely impacts many
students throughout our school district," shared sixth grade science
teacher Susan Grable. "Our students joined efforts to raise
money for Crohn’s research with both enthusiasm and resolve. They thoroughly
enjoyed the competition for a good cause, and each day was a special day for
students."
The Penny War week started with students
wearing hats for “Hats Off to Those Who Live with Crohn’s” and ended with
“Beach Day” to put a little sunshine and relaxation into the day while raising
money and awareness for Crohn’s.
Students presented a $2,831.40 check to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital IBD
Research Department on February 15. Team Patriots’ five-year total raised
from Penny Wars is more than $10,000.
A special thank you to the many parent volunteers for
offering their services to count and roll the money each day.
