Mason Intermediate School's Sanjay Swamy qualified to compete in the Ohio National Geographic State Nee to be held in Columbus on April 1.
As the 2015-2016 Mason Intermediate School Geography Bee winner, Swamy out-performed 95 other fourth, fifth and sixth graders to be named the MI Geo Bee champion in December. He then completed a written assessment to determine if he would qualify for the state competition. The National Geographic Society announced the assessment’s top-scoring students and Swamy was among those chosen as a semifinalist to compete in the 2016 Ohio National Geographic State Bee.
"We are so proud of Sanjay, and will be rooting for him as he represents Mason at the state level," said Valerie Spaeth, MI Geo Bee Coordinator.
Each state champion will receive $100, the National Geographic book “The National Parks: An Illustrated History” and a medal, and will journey to Washington, D.C., to represent their state in the National Geographic Bee Championship at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 22-25, 2016.
