MHS Senior Wins State Speaking Event

Mason High School senior Vinay Naik is the State Champion in Informative Speaking in Speech and Debate at the 2016 Ohio High School Speech League (OHSSL) State Tournament. Naik finished in first place out of 64 state qualifiers from schools across Ohio.

According to the Speech and Debate website, in the Informative Speaking category, students deliver a self-written, ten-minute speech on a topic of their choosing. Limited in their ability to quote words directly, Informative Speaking competitors craft a speech using evidence, logic, and optional visual aids. All topics must be informative in nature; the goal is to educate, not to advocate. The speech is delivered from memory.

The MHS Speech and Debate team as a whole achieved a record-breaking number of national qualifiers at this year's State Tournament.  The MHS Speech and Debate Team is coached by Melissa Donahue.
