Posted on 01/06/2020

After Western Row Elementary closed, school leaders and educators knew one important tradition would live on - the annual Senior Citizen's Holiday Luncheon!

On December 19, nearly 100 area senior citizens celebrated the holidays with Mason City Schools students.

Mason Elementary School Principal Javaris Powell welcomed honored guests. “Our school’s motto is ‘Kindness Starts with Me.’ Many thanks to you for giving us the ability to practice our school’s motto today, and for the kindness you have shown by being supporters of our community’s children.”

Each guest received a special holiday placemat, and was served a holiday meal. The traditional holiday meal was made more delicious with caring student servers and welcoming greeters. Students, dressed in their nicest clothes, were the perfect hosts as their guests enjoyed a meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, and stuffing.

Following lunch, fourth grade students from Mason Elementary who participate in Cincinnati Youth Choir’s Choral Quest program after school performed holiday medleys under the direction of Katie Hayward. They were followed by a terrific performance from Mason High School’s A Cappella Ensemble NOTEORIOUS.

Each student representative was responsible for learning a specific job. Greeters, coat checkers, and escorts made sure guests were warmly welcomed and taken care of when they arrived.  Food and drink servers were responsible for guests during the luncheon, while helpers mingled and socialized.  Holiday LunchHoliday Lunch
