HB2 Step in Right Direction, But Doesn?t Go Far Enough

Mason City Schools Superintendent Gail Kist-Kline is calling for charter schools to be held to the same transparency and accountability standards as traditional public schools, and shares that the rules should be changed to ensure that no local levy money goes to charters.  Our district applauds Representative Paul Zeltwanger and Senator Shannon Jones for supporting greater accountability and transparency among Ohio’s charter schools by voting for H.B.2 - the Community School Sponsorship and Management bill. Read the column she and other Warren County Superintendents had published in the Today’s Pulse.

And while H.B.2 is a step in the right direction, we are concerned that it doesn’t go far enough. Moreover, the federal and state government appear to be “doubling down” on their charter school bet - despite a track record of poor academic performance and fraud.
