Mitroff Receives Mason Schools Foundation Founder’s Award
Posted on 11/22/2016
In an effort to recognize the accomplishments and efforts of a community contributor who goes "above and beyond," the Mason Schools Foundation established the Campbell Family Founder's Award in honor of Ken and Joan Campbell — whose generosity, innovation and vision led to the creation of the Mason Schools Foundation. Two community members were nominated for the prestigious award, which was presented to award recipient Laurie Mitroff during the Mason Schools Foundation "Tales as Olde as Time" Gala on November 5. All of the nominees were honored for their enormous contributions on behalf of Mason City Schools students.
2016 Award Recipient
Laurie Mitroff, Mason Make A Difference Day Leader
About Laurie: Laurie has a passion for others and understands that when you harness the collective power of the Mason community you can make a big difference in the world! Ten years ago, she had a big idea. She wanted all of our schools to participate in Make A Difference Day - so that our students and families had a collective opportunity to come together to do good for the world. Since that fall in 2006, she has faithfully pulled together a team of volunteers who set about not just putting together an awesome program for Make a Difference Day - she turned it into Make a Difference Week. Bringing in food for our elementary Reach Out Programs, stocking the Mason Food Pantry's shelves, getting coats, winter clothes - you name it over the last 10 years thousands of students and families have given back, and many, many grateful people have been the recipients of Mason's generosity. This whole program is owned by Laurie - who does this strictly as a volunteer with a passion for helping others. She has shared that this is her last year chairing the program, but (like any great leader) she has put together a fantastic succession plan. She says, "It's been amazing to see the growth and expanded involvement from every school in the district over the years. The most gratifying part has been witnessing the number of children who have benefited from the amazing generosity of Mason families year after year. What a great school community we have!"
