Congratulations to 37 Mason High School band and orchestra students who have been selected as members of the prestigious Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra. The CSYO, an affiliate of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, includes the top-tier CSYO Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the CSYO Concert Orchestra.
MHS's Lenox Emmert, Karli Farrell, Andrew Flurer, Christopher Huggins, Jocelyn Kang, Faith Kim, Justin Kim, Graham Montgomery, Katherine Moseley, Alan Song, Kevin Song, Karson Walker, and Annie Wang were selected for the CSYO Philharmonic Orchestra. Under the direction of CSO Assistant Conductor Gene Chang, this ensemble is made up of students in grades 9 through 12 who represent 30 high schools in southwestern Ohio, southeastern Indiana, and northern Kentucky.
"The CSYO Philharmonic Orchestra is the most prestigious youth ensemble in our area, and the audition process is very competitive," noted MHS Orchestra Director Stephanie Jones. "Acceptance is only achieved through a lot of hard work, diligence, and commitment from each individual."
In addition, 23 MHS musicians were selected for the CSYO Concert Orchestra: Dariah Ansari, Victor Chen, Emily Fang, Katherine Gao, Roman Groenewold, Lauren Han, Jenny Hong, Kedi Hu, Bryan Kang, Christine Kim, Richard Liu, Connie Mi, Max Oldham, Nolan Song, Vicki Wang, Megan Wang, Catherine Xu, Kevin Yang, Rachel Zhan, Grace Zhang, Jennifer Zhu, Wenhan Zhu, and Kevin Zhu.
Founded in 1964 by former CSO Music Director Max Rudolf and area music educators, the CSYO is dedicated to the cultivation of talent and provides outstanding young instrumentalists the opportunity to perform repertoire not normally available through their school music programs. Students involved in the CSYO attend weekly rehearsals, study with CSO musicians, give concert performances, and are invited to attend CSO concerts. An annual highlight for the CSYO Philharmonic Orchestra is the CSO/CSYO Side-by-Side Concert performed at Music Hall.
"We are thrilled that 37 Mason High School students have been awarded membership into CSYO ensembles this year and congratulate them for their hard work!" said Jones.
