Third graders at Western Row Elementary recently met a member of our military who they had been sending letters to while he was overseas.
All Western Row students wrote Veterans Day letters back in November that were sent to Major Randy Gantt and his troop. Major Gantt is the uncle of Kelly Gholz’s third grade student, Tori Hillman. On May 4, Major Gantt surprised the class, and shared how the letters lifted service members' spirits.
“It was touching to hear how much our letters helped to pay it forward. Major Gantt said how much the letters meant to the men and women he was serving with,” shared Gholz. “He delivered the letters around and saw many of them posted around in people's rooms. They were an inspiration to the men and women serving for our country.”
In thanks, Major Gantt presented Western Row with a flag that was flown on January 11, 2016 in an f-15E Strike Eagle in Southwest Asia.
"It is humbling to receive this thank you from members of the military - who we know deserve our enormous gratitude for all they do to protect our freedom. We appreciate Major Gantt and all of our service members' sacrifice," said Eric Messer, Principal.
