Mason senior track standout Nick Pearson won an individual 2016 State Championship in the 400 meter dash event. Pearson sprinted to a new Mason record time of 47.82 to beat out a talented field of competitors.
The Comets' women's softball team is the 2016 Regional Softball Champions. This marks the second time in the last four years that Mason has won a regional championship (5th overall), with the last one coming in 2013. The softball team also captured the 2016 District Championship. Mason softball has now won 5 consecutive District titles.
The Mason girls track and field team won its 15th straight District Championship and the Mason boys track team captured their 8th district title in the last 10 years. The Comets proved again they are a running force, outdistancing themselves by over 30 points from runner-up Sycamore (148-112).
The GMC All Sports Trophy resides in the hands of the Comets after another stellar year. The trophy is annually awarded to the top athletic program in the conference, and has once again been overwhelming won by Mason High School. This marks the 9th consecutive year the school has earned the prestigious honor.
Comet football standout, Alex King, has been officially nominated for the 2017 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. With this nomination, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl recognizes Alex as one of the nation's top 400 high school football players. King, a 6'3, 220 lb., junior defensive lineman for Mason HS, was a 1st team All-GMC and 1st team All-Southwest Ohio selection in 2015. He was preseason ranked the No. 26 DE in country and No. 20 overall prospect in Ohio by 247sports.com.
Mason's Baseball and Softball teams Captured Shares of the 2016 GMC Title.
The Mason Athletic Department has chosen Ryan Root as the next head coach of the Comet Wrestling Program. Root succeeds former long time coach Craig Murnan, who announced his decision to retire from coaching after an illustrious 14-year career.
One new Mason School Record, City Record, and Centerville Record was set in the Pole Vault. Nicole Bagby jumped 12' 4" which is currently 2nd best in the state of Ohio and now overall best in the entire Cincinnati area.
Comet boys basketball coach Greg Richards and girls head Rob Matula were named as the Ohio Girls and Boys Coaches of the Year by the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame (GCBHF).
The Mason girls basketball team was named the State runner-up before a crowd of 4,783 at OSU's Schottenstein Center during the State Championship. The Comets were also the Girls Basketball District Champs!
The Mason boys basketball team won their second Division 1 Sectional title.
The Mason girls swimming team finished as OHSAA State Runner-up.
The Mason girls swimming and diving team won Districts.
Mason boys basketball coach Greg Richards won his 300th victory of his illustrious 21-year career as a Comet.
Mason boys bowling team member Sean Merritt accomplished the ultimate feat for a bowler, rolling a perfect 300 game.
